Orange experienced record sales of prepay and contract over the Christmas period, it claimed last week.
Orange told Mobile News sales of its handsets on both prepay and on contract during Christmas had reached record levels. It claimed sales of prepay were up as a result of its handset portfolio, but also thanks to its free Christmas Gift Box offer containing £60 of accessories, which subsequently sold out.
Orange confirmed its top selling handset over the Christmas period was the prepay Samsung c3050.
Prepay customers in Orange retail stores received the Christmas Gift Box when purchasing a prepay device priced £30 or more. Boxes contained a number of mobile and non-mobile related gifts including Skull Candy headphones, a wallet, five minutes of free international calls, 30 free picture messages, a yo-yo and playing cards.
Contract sales were driven by availability of the Apple iPhone on its network, although Orange refused to discuss the device.
An Orange spokesperson said: “Orange Retail has had its best Christmas ever thanks to our strong device portfolio and our Pay As You Go Christmas Gift Box.
“Our Pay Monthly sales for December were also up year on year which is fantastic considering Christmas is traditionally Pay As You Go orientated.”
