Carphone Warehouse sold up to 200,000 pink Nokia Illuvial range handsets in the lead up to Christmas.
The Illuvial range – which includes pink variations of the 6303, 6700 and 5530 – all sold well during the period, according to Carphone chief commercial officer Graham Stapleton (pictured). The 5530 variant was among its top five, he said.
Stapleton said Carphone also sold more games consoles in the fourth quarter of 2009 than any other quarter, and took a seven per cent share of the total gaming hardware market. It claimed to be the fourth biggest retailer in terms of game console sales across all industries during the period.
Stapleton said: “Games and console sales as part of gifting deals did exceptionally well during the run up to Christmas. We aim to remain a top retailer for products other than traditional mobile devices and we will continue to focus on such products in the future.”
Stapleton said sales were up in the fourth quarter of 2009 compared with 2008 with strong sales in both contract and prepay handsets.
He added: “Sales this year were significantly better than last year. Our market share showed significant double-digit growth in prepay year-on-year and a substantial improvement in contract sales.”
