Navteq has announced Navteq Traffic in the UK, increasing it’s real-time traffic European coverage to nearly 400,000 kilometres, across nearly 35 major cities in 13 European countries.
Navteq Traffic delivers real-time traffic information to major cities, including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Edinburgh and Glasgow, encompassing more than 10.5 million people.
It includes data from Trafficmaster’s network of 7,500 traffic sensors, covering 8,000 miles of UK motorways. In addition, Navteq is adding complementary data sources including GPS data from commercial fleets and consumer devices. GPS data from Nokia, as well as other European devices and handsets, will be integrated into the Navteq Traffic solution this year.
Navteq Traffic enables a single-source, uninterupted traffic service when crossing borders in Europe and is also available in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and The Netherlands.
The solution links up-to-date minute traffic information to map data and enables wireless transmission directly to in-vehicle navigation systems, personal navigation devices and mobile phones. It delivers information about road contruction, traffic speeds and incidents such as accidents.
Navteq Traffic head of product management for Europe Andreas Erwig said: “Since launching our high-quality traffic solution in Europe last year, we have concerntrated on quickly building and delivering the best-in-class pan-European traffic service available. The addition of the UK represents our ongoing commitment to offer travellers comprehensive and accurate real-time traffic information that saves time and money.”
