LG Mobile has confirmed Jim Michel, its global account manager for T-Mobile, has taken on the role of UK sales and marketing director on an interim basis.
Michel, former Motorola UK and Ireland general manager, will retain his remit for T-Mobile in the new role.
He replaces outgoing sales and marketing boss John Barton, who exits April.
It is undertsood Michel has agreed to the role until a permanent replacement is found for Barton. LG’s roadmap in the UK during the next six months is considered by retail and distribution sources to be “underwhelming”.
He is considered to enjoy his particular global role as T-Mobile account manager and to be reluctant to relinquish it completely at present. At the same time, he is recognised for his work as a UK manufacturer head already, and has agreed to steer the UK and Ireland division for a period of time.
He has been instructed to carry out a full review of the UK business, a process expected to take three months. A full-time replacement for Barton will be appointed then, and Michel will review his position.
LG Mobile is also presently without a UK head of marketing following Jeremy Newing’s exit late last year.
LG Electronics UK chief operating officer (COO) Ward Crawford has also recently left, after just 10 months in the role.
