Unified communications (UC) involves a significant increase in realtime traffic, so the underlying network infrastructure must be secure and robust to achieve seamless integration of voice and data.
Added to the plethora of solutions available from different vendors, implementation can become overwhelming. But it presents an opportunity for service providers that can integrate across a single converged IP network, who can effectively manage the UC environment for the customer.
Here’s a best-practice guide for customer success:
• Understand what UC means
Assess what communication challenges they face and what business objectives they have. Through consultation it will become clear which elements of UC will deliver real benefit, and what applications will complement their working practices to increase e¥ ciency.
• Prepare the network
Applications like instant messaging and audio/video conferencing increase network traffic. Without the right infrastructure in place, the
new and existing applications may not perform in line with expectations. That’s why it’s advisable to conduct thorough infrastructure assessment.
This will show where capacity bottlenecks impact on performance and reveal ways to optimise the infrastructure.
