Best Buy Europe is to open its first UK store in May and has announced its Thurrock, Essex site as its debut location.
The joint venture between the largest US electronics retailer and the Carphone Warehouse will open the Hedge End, Southampton and Merry Hill, West Midlands outlets in June, with the Aintree, Liverpool site opening weeks after.
The retailer has confirmed a site in Croydon, Surrey which will open this Autumn, creating around 100 jobs.
The ‘big box’ retail stores will house a range of consumer electronic goods as well as offering technical support from its Geek Squad team.
Staff will not work on a commission basis. Best Buy will offer customers the ability to trade-in old goods including televisions, laptops and mobile phones to save on the cost of new purchases. It will also offer a price match guarantee with an additional 10 per cent discount added on top.
It’s ‘blueshirt’ retail staff have been undergoing a nine-week training programme ahead of the launch.
Best Buy branded operations chief executive Paul Antoniadis said: “We’re here to make buying technology simple, exciting and tailored to each of our customers. Our store in Thurrock marks the beginning of a new chapter and we’re looking forward to bringing the Best Buy experience to consumers across the UK.”
Best Buy is creating around 8,000 jobs in the UK within the next five years.
