Australian telecoms provider Telstra has announced former T-Mobile UK sales and services director Gordon Ballantyne has joined the business.
Ballantyne joins as Group consumer and channels managing director effective in June, taking over from Glenice Maclellan. He will oversee Telstra’s consumer retail stores. Prior to his position at T-Mobile, Ballantyne was Hewlett Packard vice president for the Group personal systems and thereafter founding Dell.com and creating Dell Ventures in Europe.
Telstra chief executive David Thodey has announced a restructure at senior management level and has created a new role, chief marketing officer, which former Group strategic marketing managing director Kate McKenzie will fill. Thodey has also expanded Robert Nason’s role who is currently Group customer experience managing director. Nason will now also be responsible for the corporate strategy, mergers and acquisitions and the program office.
Thodey said: “Telstra’s core objectives are to provide our customers with innovative products and services, and to serve our customers better than anybody else.
“This reorganisation is designed to get the right people and processes in place. It will enable us to better deliver Australians the services and products they want and to profitably grow our business domestically and internationally.”
Thodey said of Ballantyne’s new position: “Gordon Ballantyne is the right person for this critical position. He will lead our drive to win new customers and better serve existing customers in the consumer market. Gordon arrives at Telstra as we take our Next G mobile network to the next level in terms of speed, and as we introduce new fixed-line products such as T-Hub and T-Box.”
Ballantyne added: “I’m excited to come to a company where the entire team has been reinvigorated by the drive to better serve customers. Telstra has a tremendous reputation in the telecommunications industry internationally for its leading mobile network and for its commitment to innovation in the fixed line business.”
