Apple sold over 300,000 iPad devices in America on the launch date April 3.
The sales were for pre-ordered devices, deliveries to Apple’s channel partners and sales in Apple retail stores. More than one million applications were also downloaded from the App Store on the launch date, with over 250,000 ebooks purchased from the iBookstore.
Apple chief executive Steve Jobs said: “It feels great to have the iPad launched into the world-it’s going to be a game changer. iPad users, on average, downloaded more than three apps and close to one book within hours of unpacking their new iPad.”
The device is available from $499 in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB variants with a 1GHz Apple A4 processor. The 3G version will be available later this month starting from $629.
A UK launch date is yet to be confirmed, but is expected to be available from later this month also.
