Samsung vice president for UK and Ireland Mark Mitchinson said in a statement he is to leave the business to complete an MBA.
Mitchinson announced his departure from Samsung, after 11 years at the helm of the Korean manufacturer, yesterday (April 14). He will leave the business next week.
Said Mitchinson: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Samsung and making the decision to leave such a great company was far from easy but I genuinely feel it’s time I spent some quality time with my family over the summer before embarking on an MBA later in the year.
“I’m immensely proud of what we have achieved as a team since I joined Samsung back in July 1999 and I leave behind an amazing group of highly talented and dedicated people.
“Clearly the opportunity to run both the Samsung Mobile and IT divisions was very tempting and I genuinely appreciated the offer, but I really feel the time is now right to handover the reins. There is still huge potential and opportunity within the Mobile/IT sector and I sincerely wish Samsung and their customers all the very best for the future.”
Samsung Electronics UK managing director David Song said of Mitchinson’s exit: “Mark’s decision to leave Samsung was totally unexpected, but we respect his decision and wish him well. Mark has been a tremendous ambassador for Samsung and we recognise and really appreciate his entrepreneurial leadership and monumental achievements during the past decade.”
