Data Select has hived off its SIM distribution and network services business as a standalone company within the Phones International Group.
The new company, Data Select Network Solutions, was created and launched on May 1 as a separate business to its traditional hardware supply operation. It will run all its SIM card distribution and network fulfilment services.
Data Select managing director George McPherson said the change was made to handle expected growth from the channel. He said the division is of a size that “it can stand on its own two feet.”
Claims Data Select has taken the decision to protect its core distribution business, and set it for a possible sale, were denied as “totally false.”
McPherson said: “That side of the business has continued to be a success and has continued to grow. We expect that trend to continue and we are continually working with our network partners to introduce more things to it. We are looking to expand it.
“For this reason, we decided for it to operate as a standalone business. We have some big plans for it. Any suggestion it is under-performing are totally false.”
Data Select claims to distribute more than 250,000 prepay SIM cards every month and has distribution agreements with all UK network operators, including MVNOs such as Lycamobile and Tesco Mobile.
