Operator O2 is to stock the first Huawei branded handset in the UK, an entry level 2G touchscreen phone.
Huawei’s G7002 is a pay-as-you-go handset featuring a 1.3 megapixel camera, 2.4ins LCD touchscreen, MP3/MP4 player and micro SD card slot. It is available from the O2 website for £40, and will be available in retail stores shortly.
“We are pleased to be partnering with Huawei to bring the G7002 to our customers,’’ said O2’s group and UK devices general manager Steve Alder. “The G7002 makes owning a touchscreen phone even more affordable and helps us continue to offer a great range of products to our customers.”
Huawei UK & Ireland’s general manager of device Nicola Philbin said: “Huawei is committed to providing high quality tailor-made handsets to customers, and the launch of the G7002 reflects our flexible branding strategy based on individual operator needs.”
US market research company iSuppli recently ranked Huawei ninth in its report on Top 10 cell phone brands in the first quarter, as ranked by units shipped.
