Dealer Sales Corner: Fibre Broadband

Our Fibre Broadband is delivered over standard telephone lines and uses BT street cabinets which are connected to high speed fibre optic cables. We’re looking at download speeds of up to 40Mbps, but results will depend on location.

There are two options for upload speeds – up to 2Mbps and up to 10Mbps. Upload speeds have typically been a bit slow for broadband. This gives customers a much faster upload speed than they will have experienced before.

Fibre Broadband will be available in a small number of locations across the UK initially and will roll out across the country in five phases – completed by the summer of 2012, when it will reach 7.5 million homes.

But we have to be realistic with customers about coverage. Although BT publishes exchanges that are going to get the service, it doesn’t necessarily mean your particular street cabinet will get the upgrade.

Decisions about which street cabinets get the new equipment will be made on a case-by-case basis.

The tariffs partners can offer meet most business requirements. All the tariffs have a £75 connection charge. There are two ‘Homeworker’ tariffs – both give you download speeds of up to 40Mbps and upload speeds of up to 2Mbps. The £39 a month tariff gives 10GB of monthly usage allowance while the £45 a month tariff doubles that.

There are four ‘Office’ tariffs. They range from FTTC Premium 20GB, which is £55 a month and offers the same download speeds and upload speeds of up to 10Mbps. At the other end of the range, FTTC Premium Unlimited costs £179 a month, offers the same upload and download speeds but comes with an unlimited monthly allowance.

If you compare our tariffs with consumer products, you’ll see our pricing is higher. That’s because we provide a business grade service; we are not trying to win thousands of consumers. We have a highly managed network, monitored and controlled to perform for business customers.

We have a good revenue share proposition – 10-12 per cent ongoing.

But we support our business partners’ acquisition and sales costs by making either one month’s or multiple months’ line rental available.
