KPN Telecom is to expand its retail network in the Netherlands with 52 new shops after Dexcom Retail said it was closing its t for telecom stores.
Dexcom said it was closing its 100 t for telecom stores in the Netherlands before the end of 2010 after what it called “inadequate” results for the chain in 2009. Dexcom said the Dutch telecom market is almost saturated and that it is closing the t for telecom shops to focus on its Dixons and Dynabyte brands.
KPN said it has reached an agreement in principle with Dexcom Retail to takeover some of these t for telecom stores, which will open under the KPN, Telfort and Hi banners.
KPN said this expansion will give Telfort and Hi increased coverage throughout the Netherlands. After the expansion, the company will have 105 KPN shops, 55 Hi shops and 53 Telfort shops.
The planned expansion is subject to approval from the Dutch competition authority.
