Dexcom said it was closing its 100 ‘T For Telecom’ stores in the Netherlands before the end of 2010 after what it called “inadequate” results for the chain in 2009. KPN Telecom is to purchase the chain.
Dexcom said the Dutch telecom market is almost saturated and that it is closing the ‘T For Telecom’ estate to focus on its technology brands Dynabyte and Dixons, the latter chain sold to it in 2006. Both Dixons and Dynabyte offer mobiles in their product portfolios.
KPN Telecom said it has reached an agreement in principle with Dexcom Retail to takeover some of these stores, which will open under the KPN, Telfort and Hi banners.
KPN Telecom said the expansion will give Telfort and Hi increased coverage throughout the Netherlands. After the expansion, KPN Telecom will have 105 KPN shops, 55 Hi shops and 53 Telfort shops.
The planned expansion is subject to approval from the Dutch competition authority.
