Chinese vendor ZTE claims to be on target to be number three handset manufacturer by volume by 2015, and to take an eight per cent share of handsets handled by operators in 2010
ZTE said this week it is on target to ship 80 million devices in 2010, having already shipped over 40 million in the first six months of the year.
The firm expects to ship 100 million in total in 2011, and 200 million by 2015, putting it in the top three handset manufacturers by volume.
As well as launching co-branded handsets, ZTE supplies handsets on an ODM basis to networks, such as the T-Mobile Vairy and Orange Vegas, which remains the company’s immediate focus.
In the UK, ZTE had a three per cent share of handsets handled by operators in 2009. It has set a target of eight per cent through operator ODM and co-branded business for 2010. It has already hit six per cent in the first six months of the year, it said.
ZTE saw quarterly shipments to the UK top one million during the second quarter, the first time it has achieved such a volume during a single three-month period.
