Orange/T-Mobile UK joint venture company Everything Everywhere signs African telco Econet Wireless as its first MVNO partner
Everything Everywhere has signed up Econet Wireless, a telecoms group headquartered in Mauritius and running network services in various African countries, as a UK MVNO.
Econet will offer low-cost international calling from prepay SIM cards to African communities based in the UK.
The firm claims operations in Botswana, Burundi, Kenya, Lesotho, Nigeria, South Africa and Zimbabwe. It is expected to offer UK residents cheap calls to these destinations.
It will market to UK-based communities linked with specific African countries via relevant ethnic media and events. Econet Wireless SIM cards will be available from newsagents in key urban centres, as well as online.
Econet Wireless managing director Marco Signorini said: “This fills a real gap in the ethnic African market.”
Everything Everywhere now partners with 19 MVNOs. It said Econet Wireless is the first overseas operator to run a UK MVNO.
The service will launch on Orange’s network initially.
