Service provider Azzurri Communications in five-year deal to support 450 STA travel agent sites
O2 dealer Azzurri Communications has won a five-year contract with STA Travel to connect, manage and support a global wide area network (WAN).
The WAN links STA’s 450 retail outlets, call centres and business partners globally.
The primary purpose of the WAN is to enable STA to run a centralised technology strategy whereby all of its business applications, such as point of sale and financial management software is hosted in the UK and rolled out globally over the network Azzurri provides.
STA’s 450 outlets are located across 85 countries. Azzurri said they all require instant access to large amounts of information such as flight schedules, prices and seat availability from a range of carriers, as well as data on domestic travel, accommodation, weather conditions, insurance and visa information.
It added a robust, flexible and scalable global network to underpin this information flow is vital to STA’s business success.
Azzurri has worked with STA since 2002. Originally STA was a customer of Sirocom and remained with the company when Azzurri acquired Sirocom.
Azzurri sales director Jason Standerwick (pictured) said: “Ensuring consistent global connectivity and support can be very challenging for firms, but we take that pain away by offering a single relationship and single SLA for them.
“We are also seeing increasing numbers of customers move to longer term contracts with us.
“This is important as it helps us build a platform for growth, and allows our customers to benefit from improved return on investment over the course of their contracts.”
STA Travel chief information officer Andy Mills said: “We had a close relationship with Azzurri for a number of years and it has consistently provided us with great service and competitive pricing.
“We reviewed the market and looked at a number of WAN suppliers at the beginning of this year.
“After a competitive tender, we chose to re-award the contract to Azzurri.
“The key benefit we get from working with a managed communications service provider like Azzurri is clarity of responsibility. It is responsible for managing multiple suppliers and delivering on SLAs and it has has always dealt with challenges quickly and efficiently.
“There is also a very sound relationship operationally, with technology teams and engineers from both sides collaborating effectively.”
