Brightstar Europe buys Austrian distributor AKL Telecommunications, taking a 100 per cent shareholding of the company
Brightstar Europe has completed its acquisition of AKL Telecommunications. The news follows the company’s purchase of Dutch handset distributor Mobile Communication Company (MCC) for around €65 million (£54 million), its most significant buy to date.
Under the agreement with AKL, which was first announced in May, Brightstar has purchased 100 per cent shareholding of the company through Tech Data Österreich GmbH. AKL will continue to operate as a separate entity from its offices and warehouse in Vienna.
AKL is a supplier of mobile devices and fixed network solutions to dealers and consumer electronics stores. Its portfolio of vendors include Nokia, Samsung and Orange.
Brightstar Europe president Rod Millar said: “The completion of our acquisition of AKL means that Brighstar Europe is now offering a broad choice of converged mobile data and voice solutions to customers in 13 European countries.”
