The Samsung Galaxy Tab, the manufacturer’s first tablet device, will go on sale through Vodafone in October
Samsung will launch its Galaxy Tab device through Vodafone in October, with pricing to be announced soon. It’s the first time the manufacturer has released a tablet device.
The Galaxy Tab is powered by the Android 2.2 operating system and a 1GHz processor and comes with a seven-inch display. A 1.3-megapixel camera allows for face-to-face video telephony with a three-megapixel rear facing camera capturing images and videos. For voice telephony, the Galaxy Tab can be turned into speakerphone or a mobile phone via a Bluetooth headset.
HD video content is supported by multimedia formats including DivX, Xvid ad MPEG4. Other features include either 16GB or 32GB of internal memory with upto 32GB external memory available.
Samsung’s e-reading application the ‘Readers Hub’ provides access to a digital library, ‘Media Hub’ provides access to films and videos and the ‘Music Hub’ application gives users access to a range of music tunes.
Samsung UK and Ireland head of mobile Simon Stanford said: “Samsung recognises the tremendous growth potential in this newly created market and we believe that the Galaxy Tab brings a unique and open proposition to market.”
Vodafone group director of terminals Patrick Chomet said: “Adding tablets as part of our device range is a natural step that gives customers an alternative way to enjoy great content and internet services.”
