Tracking service provider Crystal Ball has joined BlackBerry’s developer Alliance programme, following availability of its tracking platform for BlackBerry handsets

Tracking provider Crystal Ball has joined BlackBerry’s Alliance Select programme for mobile software and programme developers.

The accreditation allows Crystal Ball access to products by BlackBerry maker Research in Motion (RIM) ahead of general release.

Managing director Raj Singh said: “We’re delighted to be working with BlackBerry on a much closer level as it is the recognised global brand in the business market. This is of paramount importance to our channel partners and our customers, as BlackBerry is the preferred product in the business market.

“Becoming a BlackBerry Alliance Select partner enables us access to new BlackBerry handsets and operating systems before pre-release, which enables our in-house development team to align our products for release at the same time as BlackBerry launch its new devices.

“It also enables us to get extensive technical back up for Crystal Ball product development direct from RIM. This is going to be a huge benefit to us.”

The Crystal Ball application runs on the BlackBerry Bold 9000, Bold 2 9700, Curve 2 8900, Pearl 3G 9105 and Storm 2 9520, and will be compatible with the BlackBerry Torch shortly.

It also works on Symbian and Windows Mobile devices. An Android version is also to launch.

The downloadable Crystal Ball application combines a tracking function, lone worker solution and an airtime monitoring tool.

The service is intended to give employers better sight of staff on the road, and a way to improve productivity among them. It also offers some protection for staff in difficult work environments and protection for employers against tough duty-of-care obligations.
