John Lewis launches mobile website and plans app development

Retailer John Lewis is planning to develop a range of mobile applications for its customers after launching a website tailored for mobile devices.

The mobile site allows customers to buy products as they would from John Lewis’ traditional website, as well as locate their nearest store.

It has been developed in collaboration with Usablenet and launches on October 11.

John Lewis said the mobile site will also allow it to better understand customers’ needs when developing mobile applications in the future. It is investigating the potential for an app which will be focused on the experience and relationship customers have with the retailer. John Lewis is planning to launch an app in this vein early next year.

John Lewis head of online selling Jonathon Brown said: “Our customers’ appetite for mobile commerce has grown enormously and our focus has been on developing a site with a seamless experience.

“Mobile is a vital part of our vision to become the leading multi-channel retailer in the UK.”
