Trader resource gsmExchange claims BlackBerry proliferates within the global distribution sector as it debuts its app for import/export community
GsmExchange, the online auction house for the trading community, reckons BlackBerry handsets are most popular among its members, following launch of its own smartphone application for the import/export community.
GsmExchange said it polled its 40,000 industry members, from across the global distribution and wholesale sector, and found BlackBerry to be the industry’s handset of choice. It said 100 per cent of its members are smartphone users.
It ran the research in support of its own smartphone application programme, which will see it roll out gsmExchange apps for a number of smartphone platforms.
It launched its debut BlackBerry application at the start of November, following the reasearch. The gsmExchange BlackBerry application is available from BlackBerry App World, although gsmExchange said it will implement its own verification process before new applicants membership is confirmed.
It said the new BlackBerry application has so far been downloaded by more than 60 per cent of members.
GsmExchange manager Dan Quinn said: “To our knowledge we are the first company to launch an import/export App for international wholesalers and have been amazed by the uptake and participation from our members. Activity on the site has increased with more members logging in and staying online longer as a result of the new app”.
He added: “The results supported popular opinion that BlackBerry is the smartphone of choice for mobile phone distributors. These results helped us to develop an app strategy with particular focus on securing a BlackBerry application before concentrating on Apple or Android devices.”
