LG Optimus One hits one million sales

LG hails Android 2.2 powered Optimus One as its fastest-selling smartphone handset ever

LG Electronics’ handset, the Optimus One, has passed one million unit sales globally, it said.

The Korean manufacturer said the smartphone, which runs on Android 2.2, hit the number 40 days after it first went on sale. Sales cover Europe, Asia-Pacific and the US, where it goes under the name Optimus S on the Sprint network and Optimus T on T-Mobile,

It is the fastest-selling handset in the company’s history, it said.

LG Mobile president and chief executive Dr. Jong-seok Park said: “The LG Optimus One was designed to provide an easy transition into the world of smartphones and as these numbers demonstrate, there is obviously a strong demand for this type of device.”

The Optimus One continues to be made available in new territories by new operators. It will be available via 120 carriers and partners, the company said. LG said it expects Optimus One to be its first 10 million-seller smartphone.
