Currys boost sees Phones 4U reach 500 outlets

Fifty one outlets within Currys Megastores raises Phones 4U retail portfolio, company aims to double number of store-in-stores again in the next 12 months

Phones 4U has boosted its number of outlets to 504 across the UK, up 10 per cent since the start of 2010, thanks to its partnership with electronics retailer Dixons Retail.

In total there are now 453 Phones 4U stores and 51 store-in-stores in Dixons’ owned Currys Megastores. The number exceeds the agreement the companies made in August to reach 50 stores by Christmas.

Phones 4U aims to double the number of store-in-store outlets, or ‘two-in-one’ stores, by this time next year.

The increase has bolstered merchandising space by 30 to 40 per cent, it said, and maximised its relationships with handset partners such as BlackBerry, which now has two ‘BlackBerry Zones’ in stores on Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Street in London.

Phones 4U retail development director John Welsh said: “As the mobile industry fast approaches 2011, Phones 4U finishes 2010 exceeding 500 stores, driven partly by the successful progression of our store-in-store venture with Dixons Retail and partly by our continued commitment to growing the Phones 4U business and increasing our market share.”
