Samsung UK and Ireland managing director Simon Stanford reckons mobile spend is protected to an extent despite economic difficulties, but that manufacturers must earn consumers’ attentions with continued innovation
“Despite the VAT increase, mobile phones will be the one luxury people will spend on.
“But with such choice, manufacturers will need to innovate so people feel compelled to upgrade.
“Successful manufacturers will provide devices as interesting on the inside as they are on the out.
“Faster mobile internet speeds and wider mobile broadband availability will mean people can download and share videos, music and games faster and more easily than before.
“They’ll look for devices to do all that.
“Platforms and apps will be massive so it will be important to make the most of the opportunity. Manufacturers must keep pace or risk getting lost in what is becoming an increasingly crowded market.”
