S3i managing director Philip Johnston predicts the amount of recycled devices to increase as smartphone purchases growth continues
“In the UK alone there are more than 60 million phones in circulation, and all of them will need recycling at some point.
In 2011 analysts expect 62 per cent growth in smartphones.
Demand for buyback, repair and recycling of smartphones will naturally increase.
By 2012, tablet sales will have surpassed 30 million.
As prices come down, and more devices are launched, tablets will become more mass market.
So a market will emerge for recycling tablet devices too.”
