Samsung Galaxy S II to go on sale on May 1


New flagship device will be available in the UK from the start of next month

The Samsung Galaxy S II will be available for purchase nationwide from all major networks and retailers from May 1.

The device which was unveiled at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February runs on Android’s 2.3 (Gingerbread) platform.

It will be available to purchase from all operators and retailers on May 1 according to Samsung.

Speaking about the launch, Samsung UK and Ireland mobile managing director Simon Stanford said: “We’re confident it’s [the device] a great package for anyone wanting a superior smartphone experience.”

With a larger screen and faster processor, plus NFC support, the Samsung Galaxy S is similar to the Samsung manufactured Google Nexus S but with improved performance.

It has a 4.3-inch display, with 800×480 pixels and a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, plus Samsung’s TouchWiz UI (V4) and camera interface.

The handset is expected to be in direct competition with other MWC announced Android handsets from other manufacturers including including LG’s Optimus 2X and Optimus 3D and the the Motorola ATRIX.
