Motorola Solutions CEO takes on chairman role

Greg Brown replaces Dave Dorman as chairman – a role he will serve in alongside his chief executive duties

Motorola Solutions, the separate innovation and technology arm of Motorola has extended its chief executive Greg Brown’s role to chairman.

The additional role means Brown (pictured) who was first elected to the company’s board of directors in 2007 replaces Dave Dorman who steps down as chairman after three years to become an elected lead independent director of the board.

Brown was previously president and chief executive of Motorola in January 2008.

Speaking about the appointment Brown said: “ I want to thank Dave for his service to Motorola as its chairman over the past three years and, in particular, his leadership and guidance as Motorola planned and executed its successful separation into two companies.

“I look forward to working with him in his role of lead independent director as we continue to build and grow our company.”

Dorman said: “ I am honoured to have been chairman of Motorola, and Greg has my full support in his new role as he guides this company to greater success.”

Motorola Mobility and Motorola Solutions formally began trading separately on the New York Stock Exchange on January – a move that had been planned for over two years.

Under the agreement, Motorola Mobility owns the Motorola brand but licenses it to Motorola Solutions.
