O2 customers can now use O2’s Facebook page to top up their prepay mobiles
O2 is allowing prepay customers to top up their phones via Facebook, in a move the firm believes is a world first for a major mobile operator. OS says the process will be exatly the same as on the O2 website, and users will still receive an SMS confirming the transaction.
The firm says that it is offering the service because it was people to be able to avoid having to interrupt activities such as using Facebook, and to test whether consumers are interested in buying products and services via the social network.
O2 head of social media Alex Pearmain said: “With more than 30 million people in the UK using Facebook we wanted to make our services available where it’s convenient for them.
“Pay & Go Top-up through Facebook is a milestone for us and we’ll be listening to our customers to see what services to develop next.”
