The acquisition of Data Select by Brightstar is understood to have collapsed due to Nokia’s veto of the deal
Pressure from Nokia is believed to have scuppered Brightstar’s plans to acquire rival distributor Data Select, sources close to Mobile News say.
It has been widely suggested Nokia declined to give its blessing to the deal. Without such support Data Select would not have been such an attractive target for Brightstar, says industry sources.
Sources close to Brightstar have denied Nokia had any involvement however.
The collapse of the deal, if true, ends months of uncertainty for staff at both companies. “Its been an uncertain few months. Hopefully we can get back on track soon”, said one Data Select staffer.
Nokia, Brightstar and Data Select all declined to comment.
