BlackBerry Playbook tablet launches in the UK across Carphone’s retail estate and at two of Phones 4U’s London stores

The Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4U have begun stocking the BlackBerry PlayBook (pictured) today (June 15).

The device is available across Carphone’s retail estate and from Phones 4U’s Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Street stores.

It will become available from all other Phones 4U stores from tomorrow.

Phones 4U will sell the 16 GB device for £399 or with a BlackBerry 9300 bundle on an O2 £37 tariff. The 64 GB model with Wi-Fi will be available online only and priced at £549.

Carphone will also sell the 16 GB model for £399 as well as a 32 GB model for £479; and will offer the 64 GB model for £559.

Speaking about the launch of the PlayBook Phones 4U Trading director Scott Hooton said the retailer expected sales of the tablet to be strong on the back of good BlackBerry handsets this year.

“BlackBerry is incredibly strong in the 16-25 market, three of the top five retail contract sales in April were BlackBerry devices,” Hooton said.

“Their popularity stems from the brands fashionable nature and its offering of tools, such as BlackBerry Messenger, that allows people to easily stay in touch with friends.

“The arrival of the BlackBerry PlayBook and unique BlackBerry Bridge feature allows us to offer a top of the range tablet with uncompromised mobile browsing ability, which really sets the device apart from other tablets.”

  1. The price point of the BB Playbook is right. I love the iPad and its great for consumers but i feel that the BB would be a more enterprise orientated device.
