Fonehouse stores attacked at cost of £70k during riots

Three shops “completely ransacked” during violence as retailer prepares for further attacks on outlets

Fonehouse has confirmed that three of its retail stores were looted during the riots on August 8, costing the company more than £70,000.

The retailer’s stores in Walworth Road and Greenwich in South London, as well as its shop in Norboury in Croydon were attacked. The Walworth Road shop had recently undergone a store refit as part of Fonehouse’s rebranding programme (pictured), costing £30,000.

Everything was stolen from the stores, except for flatscreen televisions that looters failed to displace from the walls at the newly refurbished outlet.

Fonehouse managing director Clive Bayley said: “This is a big blow. We’re continuously tracking tip offs from people on Twitter about which of our stores might get hit next and attempting to take the necessary measures to protect ourselves at the earliest opportunity.”
