Everything Everywhere launches text donation appeal for children’s charity UNICEF to help tackle famine in the Horn of Africa following similar campaigns for Pakistan and Haiti last year
Everything Everywhere has launched a text donation appeal with UNICEF to raise money to provide aid for famine struck East Africa.
UNICEF said that drought, famine and rising food prices are affecting more than 12 million people in Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti in the Horn of Africa.
Of those facing starvation, an estimated 2 million are children and UNICEF said the situation is worsening on a daily basis.
Everything Everywhere is UNICEF’s official disaster and emergency response partner.
UNICEF Ambassador Ewan McGregor said: “The situation in East Africa is at crisis point, with armed conflict and drought placing children at severe risk of famine and imminent death.
“UNICEF has a special partnership with Orange and T-Mobile, enabling customers to simply text a donation which will help malnourished children in the region receive lifesaving food, water and the basic health care that they so desperately need.
Last year similar campaigns for Haiti and PAkistan saw Orange and T-Mobile customers donate £1 million to UNICEF, added McGregor.
UNICEF said that it also wants those who donate to pass on the plea for donations via email and social media.
