Retailer will partner with Chinese manufacturer to stock its own brand Blaze and Vision devices in Q4
Phones 4U today (August 18) announced it has partnered with Chinese manufacturer Huawei to stock its Blaze and Vision devices in the fourth quarter.
The agreement will see Phones 4U have an exclusive lead to market on the Blaze device and the company is so far the only retailer to secure distribution rights for the Vision.
Both devices use the Android 2.3 operating system and will be the first to hit the UK under Huawei’s brand – the company has previously only been an OEM, partnering with operators such as Orange.
Phones 4U trading director Scott Hooton says both companies will invest “significantly” in launch plans and marketing executions ahead of and during the handsets’ release.
Hooton said the Huawei deal ties in with Phones 4U’s strategy of targeting the youth segment of the market.
“With the new Vision and Blaze devices, it’s clear that Huawei is serious about becoming a key challenger in the competitive smartphone space,” Hooton said.
“We’re delighted to be starting this journey with Huawei, which presents a massive opportunity for both companies and more innovation and choice for our customers.”
“Phones 4u has a terrific track record within the UK youth market, which is a key demographic for our emerging brand and compelling smartphone range.
Huawei executive vice president Mark Mitchinson (pictured) echoed Hooton’s comments saying the experience Phones 4U has in the youth segment made it an ideal partner for Huawei.
“The Blaze and Vision will be among the very best-specified Android smartphones in the market and we are delighted that Phones 4U has taken the decision to enter into a truly strategic partnership with Huawei, a partnership that offers great consumer value without compromise,” Mitchinson said.
Prices for the handsets will be announced closer to launch.
