Darren Burton joins distributor to its boost fixed line business as it looks to become complete communications provider
O2 Centre of Excellence distributor MoCo has appointed former BT veteran Darren Burton as a fixed-line specialist as it looks to become an established converged mobile distributor.
Burton, who joined the firm last week, was at BT for 12 years and for the past eight years had headed up a local business franchise for the company, covering the Kent, Surrey and Sussex regions.
MoCo managing director Ian Robinson said: “We wanted to bring Darren in to complement our joined-up strategy, to help our 100 or so dealer partners sell the O2 fixed-line proposition.
“We’ve been working on the apps side of things and been really looking at converged solutions. We found we had mobile specialists with general knowledge of fixed-line, but now we have a dedicated specialist with a host of experience to look after that.”
MoCo told Mobile News in April that it wanted to become a complete communications provider, following the launch of its NFC ‘Touch’ product and mobile forms product Mobilize.
Robinson admitted a lack of NFC-enabled handsets on the market has not been ideal, but expects this to change by early next year, after seeing manufacturer roadmaps with NFC-enabled devices.
Robinson added: “For us it’s always been about slowly testing the product, but we’ve still had a lot of interest in it and now have 26 companies taking out a combined total of 400 licences.
“It’s just a matter of being patient and pushing on with it next year.
“At the end of Q1 2012, you could find that 50 per cent of the handsets in the market are NFC capable and that makes it easier to fulfil demand.”
