The device will also be available in Phones 4U stores across the country, as reported by Mobile News last month.

The device which runs the Android 2.3 ‘Gingerbread’ operating system will be priced at the lower end of the market and is set to retail for under £100. Mobile News understands the price is likely to be around the £79.99 mark.

It will be distributed to both retailers by Huawei’s Pan European distribution partner 20:20 Mobile.

Previously released in other global markets as the Huawei Ideos X3, the Blaze is the first of a number of handsets and mobile devices Huawei expects to launch in the UK over the coming months.

The Blaze measures 11.2mm in thickness and has a refined user interface, which Huawei says makes it easy to navigate, more “intuitive to use” and power efficient.

It includes Google Maps, Google Talk, Gmail and YouTube, features a 3.2 mega pixel camera, a 3.2 HBGA screen with 480×320 pixels, latest HSPA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

It has 512MB of on board storage, which is expandable to 32GB with a micro SD card.

Huawei UK and Ireland executive vice president Mark Mitchinson said the launch of the Blaze was the first step in Huawei’s quest to be among the leading smartphone brands in the “next few years”.

“The Huawei Blaze represents the first important chapter in an epic new journey Huawei is embarking upon in the UK and Ireland, and indeed globally, and I am delighted to have Phones 4U and Tesco Mobile supporting such a pivotal and innovative product,” Mitchinson said.

“The Phones 4U and Tesco Mobile brands are synonymous with the UK youth market and value segment, and this is where Huawei will enjoy early success as a progressive new smartphone brand, which we will build alongside our highly-successful ODM portfolio.

“The Huawei Blaze packs a powerful punch in terms of its feature set in the Android prepay and contract market. It is a slick, slimline smartphone with great functionality and exceptional build quality.

“It will clearly appeal to a whole swathe of UK consumers as a first Android smartphone and is bound to be a must for discerning shoppers.”
