New head of commercial delivery at O2 Wi-Fi

Former Nielsen Company Online and Media director Ben Mein will work closely with O2 Wi-Fi managing director Gavin Franks

O2 has appointed former Nielsen Company Online and Media director Ben Mein as its head of commercial delivery at O2 Wi-Fi.

Mein (pictured) will be responsible for the delivery of O2’s Wi-Fi plan, including the development of commercial strategies, expanding client and third party relationships and overall financial growth, according to O2.

He will also lead the Wi-Fi sales team and work closely with O2 Wi-Fi managing director Gavin Franks who said Mein’s experience will be vital in the growth of the business.

“Ben has a proven track record in delivering strong commercial results for the digital media sector,” Franks said.

“His experience will prove vital as we continue to grow our venue partnerships and work with these partners to enhance customers’ wifi experience through the delivery of relevant timely content.”

Mein who has also founded and lead News International’s digital strategy team prior to working at Neilsen said he aimed to double some of the offerings O2 Wi-Fi offers by 2013.

“I am pleased to be joining Gavin and the O2 Wifi team to help create a scaled wifi platform with the aim to at least double the number of premium hotspots currently offered by BT Openzone and The Cloud combined by 2013,” Mein said.

“I am relishing the challenge to develop our unique offering with partner venue owners to rapidly build our footprint throughout the rest of the UK over the coming months and years.”
