O2 secures 10,000 connection deal with BSkyB

O2 announces deal with BSkyB to provide it with 10,000 mobile connections, managed bandwidth data links and managed expert services

O2 has secured a two year, 10,000 connection contract to provide mobile services, managed resilient high bandwidth data links and managed expert services to broadcaster BSkyB.

The deal makes BSkyB the latest customer in its Joined Up Communications offering under its Joined Up Business division which was unveiled last month.

O2 has other managed services deals with G4S (Group 4 Securicor), Civica and Amey.

Speaking about the deal O2 general manager for enterprise David Plumb (pictured) said one of O2’s first tasks would be to provide BSkyB with a “robust” communications system across all aspects of its business.

“Our first job is to deliver a robust mobile communications system for the company, who need to ensure that their workforces, from engineers to foreign correspondents, are able to stay constantly in touch,” Plumb said.

“Our strong levels of network coverage were of highest importance along with our ability to deliver resilient high bandwidth data links for their 2,500 mobile engineering workforce, who carry out thousands of customer visits each day.

“This, combined with our commitment to provide the highest quality of service will also help Sky achieve commercial, cost and innovation advantage in their business.”

Last month O2 business director Ben Dowd told Mobile News O2 was “transforming” its business strategy to become the partner of choice in the £62 billion information and communications technology market (ICT).
