Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition to go on sale through major retailers, including Carphone Warehouse, in the next couple of weeks
Motorola Mobility will release the Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition tablets in the UK and Ireland within the next couple of weeks.
They will be available at Carphone Warehouse, Best Buy, Dixons, PC World and Currys in the UK, with just Carphone stocking it in Ireland. Pre-orders can be made via the Carphone Warehouse website. Pricing has yet to be announced.
The duo are follow-ups to Motorola’s first tablet, the Xoom, which went on sale in the UK in April.
Both devices run off the Android 3.2 Honeycomb operating system, are powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and have screens built using ‘Gorilla Glass’.
They both come with 1.3 megapixel front and five megapixel rear-facing HD cameras with digital zoom, auto focus and LED flash, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage and splash guard to protect against spillages.
They are preloaded with MotoCast so users can access and stream files from their PC or Mac to the tablet.
The Xoom 2 (pictured left) weighs 599g (100g lighter than the first Xoom tablet) and sports a 10.1 HD screen that is also compatible with the optional Motorola Stylus.
It houses enterprise-grade security and Active Sync for work email, contacts and calendar.
The Xoom 2 Media Edition (pictured right) has a 8.2 inch HD screen that is optimised for wide viewing angles.
Motorola says this tablet, which weighs 386g, has a 20 per cent improvement in graphics performance over the original Xoom for smoother gaming. It comes with surround sound audio capabilities and bass through multiple speakers.
The new additions are also compatible with the Work and Play Kit, so users are able to plug their tablet into the HD Multimedia Station to connect to devices such as a HD TV and speakers. A keyboard and mouse is also included with this.
