O2 Media appoints new managing director

Former Mindshare head of digital display and mobile Claire Valoti to take over from Shaun Gregory on January 3, who moves to new role at Telefónica Digital

O2 UK has appointed Claire Valoti as managing director of its media business. She takes up her role on January 3, 2012 and replaces Shaun Gregory, who has become advertising manager of Telefónica Digital.

The operator said Valoti, who will report to O2 UK new business director Tim Sefton, will have the responsibility of evolving the O2 Media proposition while continuing to drive through leadership, innovation and growth in the mobile advertising space.

Valoti had been at global media network Mindshare for 11 years where she was head of digital display and mobile, working across client sectors including automotive, finance, technology, retail and FMCG, as well as developing the Mindshare mobile offering.

Over the past two years Valoti has worked with the IPA digital group and was appointed co-chair of the Mobile Marketing Association in the UK in 2010.

O2 Media launched in March 2008. It’s permission-based messaging service O2 More, which offers O2 customers special promotions such as gig tickets via text message, now has over six million customers.

Valoti said: “Mobile is such an exciting development in the marketing world right now; I am excited to be joining O2 Media who are at the forefront of driving this innovation. They truly know their audience and understand that mobile marketing has to add value.  It needs to drive attention and engagement to the customer and the brands they partner with.”

O2 UK new business director Tim Sefton said: “We continue to make O2 More and Priority Moments relevant and of value to our customer base. Claire has impressive and relevant experience that makes her the ideal choice as the managing director of O2 Media I’m looking forward to using her skills to evolve and grow O2 Media further.”
