O2 cuts international call charges to 1p a minute

Launch of O2 International SIM on November 22 will see calls to India and China at 1p per minute, with customers also benefiting from unlimited calls and texts

O2 is to cut international calls for prepay customers to mobiles and landline numbers to as little as 1p per minute from November 22 with the launch of O2 International SIM.

Texts will cost 10p per message to send, with O2 offering the same calling card rates to new customers.

O2 International SIM will be the latest addition to the operator’s prepay range. It will enable customers to call mobile and landline numbers in India and China for 1p per minute, Pakistan for 4p per minute and the USA for 2p per minute.

International SIM is available to all prepay customers free of charge, who will also benefit from the O2 Unlimited tariff to the SIM. This will give them unlimited texts to other O2 mobiles with a £10 top up and unlimited calls to other O2 mobile with every £15 top up.

The new international rates will also be automatically applied to O2’s existing O2 Unlimited Pay & Go tariff.

O2 consumer and marketing director Sally Cowdry said: “Collectively, our customers spend longer talking on their phone internationally than those on any other network, and we recognise that more and more time is being spent calling mobiles abroad.

“We’re really pleased to be offering both existing and new Pay & Go O2 Unlimited customers calling card rates for making international calls, at as little as 1p per minute.”
