Three targets connected devices market with Macheen deal

Macheen platform now available in the UK via the Three network, with individual device manufacturers yet to be announced

Three has signed an agreement with global cloud service provider for connected devices Macheen as it looks to target that market.

Macheen is a white label connectivity provider of device manufacturers, enabling them to embed 3G connectivity at point of device manufacture under their own brand and control.

The firm enables 3G connectivity for device manufacturers that produce products such as tablets, laptops, satnavs, gaming devices and other portable consumer electronic devices.

Three said customers will benefit from seamless ‘out of the box’ connectivity and manufacturer value-added service delivered over Three’s 3G network.

Three director of wholesale Lynda Burton said: “The combined package of our 3G network with Macheen’s proven platform is a very exciting prospect that will be a major catalyst for the embedded 3G market.”

Macheen president and CEO Richard Schwatz said: “Device makers are looking to turn lower-margin hardware into constant customer connections—without the heavy lifting.

“That transition begins with simple, seamless connections to the cloud, followed by on-going offers of new content and services. We are seeing a significant improvement in both the purchase and connection rates for device makers who build in connectivity into their devices.”
