TalkTalk poach O2’s Dan Meader to drive mobile sales

Fixed-line and broadband provider hires former O2 head of direct trading as it prepares to roll out contracts and handsets

TalkTalk has appointed O2 UK head of direct trading Dan Meader (pictured) as its new mobile director.

He will be responsible for sales performance through TalkTalk’s retail, online and voice channels.

Meader spent almost 10 years at O2 in a range of roles, prior to which he was senior business development manager at WorldCom following a stint at BT.

Talk Talk commercial director Tristia Clarke said: “Dan has extensive knowledge and experience of the UK mobile telecoms market.

“He was with O2 for over nine years where he held a number of senior commercial and finance roles including head of retail commercial planning and head of consumer finance.”

TalkTalk said it now has signed up more than 50,000 customers to its SIM-only mobile packages alongside fixed-line and broadband.

The firm plans to introduce handsets this spring, as well as contract offers sometime this year.

“We’re established as the value player in phone and broadband and we’ve been able to bring those principles to our MVNO partnership with Vodafone,” said Clarke.

“One year in, we’ve made a good start with a SIM-only offer and we now have the opportunity to offer a range of contracts and handsets at price points that will appeal to TalkTalk customers.”
