Huawei poaches new marketing director from EE

Former EE head of advertising and search Jill Styring joins Chinese manufacturer alongside fellow EE colleague and former RIM exec as Huawei builds marketing team

Huawei Device has appointed former Everything Everywhere head of advertising and search Jill Styring (pictured) as its new UK and Ireland marketing director.

Styring will head up a new marketing team for Huawei as it tries to build its presence in the UK market.

Styring joined EE in April 2009 as head of device marketing operations, before moving to head up the firm’s search and advertising at the start of 2010.

Prior to joining EE she was head of marketing communications at MVNO Lycamobile.

She has also worked at both Vodafone and T-Mobile.

Huawei Device UK and Ireland executive vice president Mark Mitchinson said: “I’m delighted Jill has elected to join the Huawei UK family as she is highly experienced and highly regarded in the UK mobile industry.

“The role she undertakes is crucial to our growth plans for the devices business for the year ahead. Our brand and marketing story will develop through the year, and Jill and her team will drive it and ensure its messaging, tone and creative execution is holistic, imaginative and distinctive.”

Huawei has also appointed former Everything Everywhere head of portfolio management for major programmes David Buckingham  as its new sales director for the firm’s Vodafone accounts.

Before joining EE, Buckingham worked at Samsung and Virgin Mobile.

In addition, Huawei has appointed former Research In Motion Nordics carrier marketing manager Duc Tinh Van Tri as UK marketing manager.

Former, HSC hardware manager Ian Gale also joins Huawei as open market account manager and former LG and Sony Ericsson marketing manager Craig MacLennan joins as a marketing manager.

Former Mobile Phones Direct retail operations manager Jon Morgan joined Huawei before Christmas as retail training manager for UK and Ireland.
