Taylor becomes Data Select MD as part of boardroom shake-up

Roy Taylor appointed Data Select managing director, replacing George McPherson who becomes distributor’s executive chairman

Roy Taylor has become the new MD of Data Select, with his predecessor George McPherson taking up a newly created executive chairman position.

Taylor (pictured) joined the hardware distributor in 2006 from rivals 20:20 Mobile, where he had spent six years as group purchasing director.

He began his new role on January 1, and Data Select staff were informed of the news last week.

McPherson, who held the position of MD for almost 10 years, said his new position would enable him to provide the management team with additional guidance and seek new and innovative market opportunities.

McPherson also said the reshuffle of the senior management team would strengthen the business and help it to achieve ambitious growth targets in 2012.

He also reaffirmed comments he made in late 2011 that Data Select’s growth plans may involve looking at potential acquisitions.

“These key strategic changes to our business go much deeper than simply being cosmetic,” said McPherson.

“My role as executive chairman will provide Data Select with the right level of guidance and involvement the senior management team needs to deliver operationally, while allowing me the opportunity to look further afield for new opportunities in order to secure and build a strong business.

“We are not ruling out using an acquisitive strategy.

“Roy Taylor’s promotion to MD has come as a result of his hard work and commitment to the business over the past few years.”

Taylor added: “These new changes will enable us to build and enhance further our sales and marketing functions so that we can capitalise on our current opportunities.

“2012 is shaping up to be an exciting year for this company.”
