Steadings Group CEO Keith Curran reckons content will be the buzz word of 2012, with m-commerce and the consumerisation of IT also coming to the fore
“Content will be the name of the game in 2012. It’s not through the ‘pipe’ that future revenue and profit gains will be made, but through the content you drive down that pipe.
“TV manufacturers make little money when we buy a TV compared to what Sky makes from us every month when we load it with content. 2012 might finally be the year when the mobile industry realises what can be made from selling valuable content – particularly valuable content and applications for business users – as compared to selling the device and the tariff only.
“M-commerce will take hold this year as the predominant way to research and buy products. Retailers who are not already deploying true multichannel strategies are sure to lose out. The consumerisation of IT will really start to take hold, too, with the advent of virtual Cloud storage linked to mobile devices.
“The malware age is upon us and it’s only a matter of time before a major attack is launched on the servers of a well-known enterprise from a mobile device, Android being the most vulnerable OS.
“Security and privacy will become a key focus as people become aware of the risks they are exposed to, particularly as a result of an m-commerce explosion. The solution will ultimately come from true multi-factor authentication through mobile devices.
“Consumer demand for power-draining apps will also lead to a power consumption breakthrough.”
