Bluechipworld managing director Simon Hassell sees the audio market continuing to expand, with fashion and protection-based accessories dominating volume sales
“The audio market will continue to grow this year. Following the trends we saw in Q3 and Q4 of 2011, the attachment of audio products to the iPhone and Android handsets will increase significantly.
“Distributors will have to continue to work harder and ensure they distribute products within the channel effectively and efficiently. 2011 saw major brands take positive and bold action when reviewing their distribution strategies.
“The smartphone remains the nucleus of accessories sold, and both fashion and protection will dominate volumes sales, with patterned and coloured housings being purchased regularly. The smartphone ‘standard size’ screen will increase, with more people doing more mobile browsing including online banking and shopping.
“Competition will become stronger as audio and IT manufacturers all want a healthy slice of the attachments for smartphones. The smartphone or tablet will become the control centre for a variety of activities around the home.”
