Announcement to be made on who will fill post vacated by Michel Combes, who will also step down from board

Vodafone European CEO Michel Combes will leave the company to join French media and telecoms conglomerate Vivendi SA on July 31.

Vivendi owns French mobile company SFR, which was formerly part-owned by Vodafone until the operator sold its 44 per cent stake to Vivendi in April last year for £7 billion.

Combes will also leave his post as Vodafone executive director, and stand down from the board.

Vodafone said it would make an announcement on who Combes successor will be at a later date.

Vodafone CEO Vittorio Colao said: “Michel has made an excellent contribution to Vodafone.

“He has been central to the turnaround in our commercial performance in Europe, and has played a significant role in our success in data and enterprise.

“He has also been a great colleague, contributing strongly to the good working of the executive management team, and providing invaluable support and advice. I wish him all the best in his new role.”
