Operator to exclusively stock Huawei’s new Ascend Y 100 and G7105 handsets
Huawei and O2 have struck an exclusive deal for the operator to sell the Chinese manufacturer’s new entry-level smartphone, the Ascend Y 100, from June 1.
The 10.9 mm thick Ascend Y 100 features a 2.8-inch screen, a 2 megapixel camera, an 800Mhz processor, and runs the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system.
The device will cost £80 on prepay, or free on a £10 per month contract.
O2 is also providing customers with free customisable rear covers for the Ascend Y.
Huawei UK executive vice president Mark Mitchinson said: “We are delighted O2 UK is backing Huawei’s emerging portfolio and brand with launch of the Huawei Ascend Y 100.
“The Ascend Y 100 puts easy usability at the very heart of the experience with its unique interface, and makes the transition to smartphones less daunting and more enjoyable.”
Telefónica O2 UK general manager of devices David Johnson said: “We’re really pleased to be working with Huawei to bring Android to a whole new audience.
“The Ascend Y 100 packs in everything Android has to offer, as well as a simple interface and slim design, at a lower than ever price point.”
O2 will also exclusively stock the Huawei G7105 feature phone, which will cost £40 on prepay from tomorrow (May 11).
Features on the device include a 2.8-inch touchscreen, 1.3 megapixel camera and MP3.
