Google launches maps app aimed at dispersed workforces

New Coordinate smartphone app allows managers to keep track of on-location staff in real-time

Google has launched a business version of its Google Maps application which can share the location of workers in real-time to a central office.

Google Maps Coordinate can pinpoint the whereabouts of staff through their smartphones, as well as sending and storing information on clients and jobs, which can be updated from anywhere and sent straight to the app on worker’s handsets.

The app has been designed for companies with a dispersed workforce where managers need to know the whereabouts of colleagues to assign jobs quickly and efficiently. It also stores historical data for analysis of similar jobs in the local area. It is currently being trialled by Sutton and East Surrey Water.
